The old General Motors site conveniently located in Doraville, just outside the Atlanta city limits is an eyesore to say the least, but soon this may be a bustling mixed-use development.
Egbert Perry is leading the way, trying to hash out a deal with GM and a number of other developers to acquire and develop the property. No one really knows what their plan is, but Perry has a knack for developing areas into very successful mixed-use complexes. This is what the area needs, but can it specifically handle this type of development. The plant sits at the crossroads of many traffic arteries that run through Atlanta. I-85, 285, Buford Highway and Peachtree Road. There were rumors that this area would become the new open-air stadium of Atlanta, but that was squashed when Arthur Blank, owner of the Falcons decided to keep the plans for a new stadium in downtown. I can’t wait to see what happens to this area because I live close and it will drastically affect property taxes and values.
