We are officially building our first custom home in the Buckhead area of Atlanta, Georgia. Buckhead is in the heart of Atlanta and consists of major commercial centers and high-end luxury real estate including single family homes, condos and town homes. Buckhead is officially in the City of Atlanta but many consider Buckhead its own entity, a sort of village if you must.

Below is what currently sits on the property.

We are taking the existing home that is situated on the lot and expanding it substantially, adding a 2-car garage onto the front, expanding the main floor back and adding a 2nd story. In all there will be 5 bedrooms and 4.5 baths.

Brookhaven Renovation

We began renovations again on our Brookhaven home the 2nd week of February. So far, the workmanship has been excellent and the only delays to report are due to the persistent on again, off again rain showers typical this time of the year. We started by crating a “craftsman style” porch on the front of our 1940s bungalow.

You can see on the far right of the picture that we began closing in our carport, enabling us to use it as a den, and free up space in our formal living room for entertaining. Additionally, our laundry room is connected to the carport on the outside of the home, therefore doing laundry is a tedious task, and not the most comfortable in extreme heat or cold. These small homes do not afford you the luxury of space, so taking advantage of what you have is key with any small home. We decided to sacrifice our carport for the additional 300+ square feet and indoor laundry, and I truly believe we are making the best decision.

Brookhaven Renovation Complete

We have finally completed the Brookhaven bathroom renovation. Along the journey, we encountered a number of problems, the most severe being the replacement of the existing air conditioning unit and furnace. After that was taken care of, we were able to shift our attention to the new windows.

Kobee Steak absolutely loves the new shower!

Thenew windows have already made a huge difference regarding our utility costs. I can tell that less air is escaping and also coming in as a whole, not to mention they look fantastic.

Front Before New Windows

They did a great job custom building the picture window in front.

The contractors who installed the windows are from Window World based here in Atlanta. Check out www.windowworld.com for estimates.

Brookhaven Renovation: Part 1

We have begun renovating our investment property in Brookhaven, the house was built in the 1940s and has definitely been showing its age recently. The first task is tackling the mold infested master bath. After a tumultuous bout with the mold spreading constantly in the bathroom, we decided to completely gut it and find out what the true problem is.

I was kicked out of the festivities once the moldy insulation began to show its ugly face. A few surprises came about, but nothing too serious yet.

Today at the tile store we explored aisle after aisle on the search for the perfect complementary pieces. We are installing wall tiles, shower floor tiles and separate floor tiles. We also had some fun while on the shopping trip.
